
BIOGRAPHY
Brightin Rose Schlumpf is a passionate performer whose dynamic talent as a violinist and violist has captivated audiences nationwide. With a background in orchestral, chamber, and solo performances, she masterfully weaves stories that resonate in various venues. Her artistry and commitment make her a sought-after musician in the orchestral community and in the teaching studio.
Brightin Rose Schlumpf is a Colorado-based violist and violinist whose dynamic career spans orchestral, chamber, solo, and pedagogical spheres. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Arts in Viola Performance at the University of Northern Colorado, where she serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Instructor of Record for undergraduate viola students.
Brightin holds a Master of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she was a teaching assistant and recipient of the Gabor Ormai Scholarship, and a Master of Music in Violin and Viola Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music, cum laude, from Cornell University, where she completed an honors thesis under the guidance of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steven Stucky.
As a committed educator, Brightin maintains an active private studio through Brightin’s Music Studio, has taught with Trala, Inc., and has held faculty positions at summer programs such as the Lamont Summer Academy, University of Colorado Summer Music Academy, and Just Chamber Music. Her teaching philosophy blends rigor and joy, and she specializes in fostering long-term growth in students of all ages and backgrounds. She holds Suzuki certifications through Book 8 and is a longtime member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the American String Teachers Association.
Brightin’s orchestral engagements include substitute roles with the Colorado Symphony, Central City Opera, Colorado Ballet, and Boulder Philharmonic, among others. She holds section positions with the Boulder Chamber Orchestra and the Boulder Bach Festival and has performed as principal with regional orchestras including the Emerald City Opera and the Boulder Symphony. She has also recorded extensively with local artists and ensembles, with appearances on albums by Andy Sydow, Kantorei, Princess Music, and others.
A passionate chamber musician, Brightin is a founding member of both Ensemble Zwei and Aspen Leaf Chamber Players, performing regularly at events and educational residencies throughout Colorado and beyond. Her work with ensembles has included collaborations with artists such as Josh Groban, Michael Bublé, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Brightin’s administrative and leadership experience includes roles in student support, production, marketing, and community outreach at institutions such as Trala, Inc., Longy School of Music, MIT, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. She has served as an adjudicator, clinician, and coach in public schools across Colorado and maintains a strong presence in educational outreach through school residencies and YouTube content under the name BrightinRoseStrings.
Her major teachers include Matthew Dane, Erika Eckert, Geraldine Walther, Nathan Cole, Laura Bossert, and Ann Setzer, with additional guidance from members of the Takács Quartet, Pacifica Quartet, and Peabody Trio. She has performed in masterclasses for James Ehnes, Teng Li, Victoria Chiang, Jeffrey Irvine, and others.
